Niketown Miami · January 20, 2006

After Boston and New York, the expectations going into Miami were high, and the shoe came from an unexpected place.

Only one pair released this time, and it was the first running silhouette the community ever worked on, an Air Max 180 built right when the History of Air pack had everyone obsessed with the model. The theme was pure Florida: a gator. Green croc and green suede up top, a pink Swoosh, a gum outsole standing in for the belly, pink for the tongue, even a star and perforations on the toe as a wink back to the Cowboy series. The insole was designed in house. There were 180 pairs, fittingly, each numbered on the heel, and they vanished fast.

Not everyone caught the alligator hiding in the colorway, and that was fine, because it was simply a great shoe whether you got the joke or not. It has since become one of the hardest SC shoes to find anywhere.

Were you at the Miami event, and did the gator concept click for you right away or only once someone pointed it out?
