When the community’s first Jordan Brand shoe launched on October 23rd, 2010, it launched in three places at once, and one of them had to be Chicago. For anything with the Jumpman on it, that city carries a weight no other can.
The CMFT 11 SC ran the carbon fiber thread straight back to the XI, the model that first brought the material to the Air Jordan line, with an unmolded carbon rand wrapping the upper. Chicago got the same surprise the other cities did. Hidden among the 340 total pairs were 23 packed in custom carbon fiber boxes, scattered in at random, so somebody in line that day walked out with something they did not even know to hope for.
Three cities on one day was an ambitious way to launch a shoe, and it made the whole thing feel bigger than a single room could hold.
Were you in Chicago for the launch, and what did the night feel like in MJ’s city?
