Three cities, one day, one shoe. The CMFT 11 SC was the community’s first collaboration with Jordan Brand, and to launch it the team threw three simultaneous events across the country on the same afternoon. Chicago and New York both went off. But Santa Monica is the one people still bring up.

That is what having Tinker Hatfield in the room will do. The legendary Jordan designer turned up as the special guest, and a launch became a moment. The shoe honored the history it came from, an unmolded carbon fiber rand running the upper as a nod to the carbon plate the Air Jordan XI introduced to the line.

The detail nobody saw coming was the boxes. Of the 340 pairs made, 23 of them were packed in custom carbon fiber boxes built by the Jordan Motorsports team and scattered randomly into the mix, Willy Wonka style. You did not know if you had one until you opened it. Imagine catching that in Santa Monica with Tinker standing a few feet away.Array
Were you at the Santa Monica launch, and did you see anyone open one of the 23 carbon fiber boxes?Array
