Open almost any deep Sole Collector feature from the magazine era and you would find the same credit: words and images, Nick DePaula. He was the one in the room with a recorder and a camera, getting the designers and the staff to actually explain how a shoe came together, then shooting it so it looked like it deserved the page.
A lot of what we know about how these collabs were made survives because Nick wrote it down and photographed it while it was happening. He went on to become one of the most respected footwear journalists in the game, but the foundation was here, doing the unglamorous work of documenting a scene while it was still figuring itself out.
