If you owned a Sole Collector shoe, there is a good chance Retrokid had his hands on it. As the creative director, Alex Wang was the person behind the Cowboy series, the loud Dunks and 2K5s and Air Maxes that came out of those Niketown events, the shoes that made people argue about whether they were too much or perfect.
He had a way of taking a model nobody expected and blocking it in a way nobody had tried, a different material on every panel, a colorway pulled from a city’s construction signs or a History of Air pack. Half the stories from that era start with a decision he made. The community knew him by his handle long before they knew his name, which is the most Sole Collector thing imaginable.
