Every launch has a hero, the pair that quietly steals the night even when it was not supposed to be the headliner. At the Vegas launch, this Zoom Rookie was that shoe, and for more than one reason.

First, it is just a hot colorway. There has long been a feeling that Nike Sportswear does not do enough versions with white Foamposite, that the material looks incredible in white and gets used that way too rarely. This pair scratched that itch. Second, and this is the part the Penny faithful love, the shoe mimicked the colorblock of the LWP that Penny originally wore on court during his early years in the NBA. So it was not just a good looking shoe. It was a callback, a recreation of something people actually watched him play in.

Then come the finishes that seal it. There is an S worked along the outsole, a small SC signature in an easy to miss spot, and subtle copper hints scattered through the build that tie it back to the rest of the pack. Those quiet details are what turn a nice colorway into one people are still happy they own. The Penny Pack was full of copper moments, and this one used them with a light touch.

What is satisfying about this shoe is the balance. It pulls off being both a clean, wearable white Foam pair and a genuine piece of Penny history at the same time. You can love it knowing nothing about the LWP he wore as a rookie, and you can love it more once you do. That double layer is the mark of a collab that did its homework.

Calling it the hero of the launch is not an exaggeration. In a pack full of strong pairs, this is the one a lot of people reached for first.Array
